Update

Hi blog readers, I know it's been a while. I'll be honest. I have no idea if or when I will ever write again. I just don't have it in me anymore.

Anyway, hope you're all doing well. Happy New Year.

(edit: Yes, I hid all my archives. I released a few of them. Releasing them is a very time consuming process and I don't know when I will finish. But this explains why you are sometimes seeing old posts suddenly show up in your rss or email. I hope that explanation helps since I'm not taking time to answer comments or emails. Also, if you've been a reader for a while but have never contributed to any of my fundraisers, please consider giving to the MS Society so I can climb to the top of 30 Rock again. Thank you!)

  1. That makes me so sad - I am a fairly new reader and I love your blog! BUT - you have to do what makes you happy, and if blogging doesn't - then let it go!! :-) But, we will miss you!

  2. why? I enjoy reading your blog. Your written voice is refreshing and upbeat compared to other fitness/running blogs.

  3. I will miss reading your updates but I can completely understand.

You've been extremely inspirational to me over the years - thank you.

You have opened my eyes to fitness, health, well-being, weight-loss and veganism. I may not do perfectly or even practice these things BUT they are on the forefront of my mind and I have run deeper into my thoughts because of you. You sharing your stories, your transformations, your ups and downs made me realize that these things are normal and people can still do well and achieve with set backs and bumps in the road.

All the best to you Sheryl!

  5. You will be sorely missed! I find you and your journey very inspirational, and while I don't know how to ride a bike, I could see myself learning just to ride with you over the Brooklyn Bridge! Wishing you all the best, and a Happy New Year!

  6. I wish you happy new year Sheryl and i miss your spirit! I saw that you make some changes to your site. It's very simple now. So, just take your time you need it and then come back to support us, to give us some encouragement to continue our journey to weight loss.

  7. I can't even begin to explain how inspirational you have been to me over the years (especially in getting my own blog up and running and telling my story) but blogging is time consuming and when you have nothing to say it's worse to 'force' it.

Have a lovely break, I hope we see you again. Happy New Year!

  25. Sheryl, I'm so sad to read this. You have a huge gift, in your writing and your photography. You are very talented. You have been a huge inspiration to me and to so many others, but it's not just the fitness adventures, but your attitude and your way of expressing yourself that has kept me coming back. It may be time to move on from the blog to a new phase of your life. But please, keep writing. Keep taking pictures. Keep finding creative outlets for your incredible talent. And take care of yourself!!!!

I hope we are lucky enough to have you back in our lives one day but you owe us nothing and yourself whatever you want your life to be. If that is not blogging, fair enough. Whatever happens, I will often be thinking of you and hoping your life is what you deserve, which is everything you've ever hoped for.

  36. Thank you for all the inspiration, motivation and entertainment over the years. I've been a reader since 2007 and I've gained so much from your generosity in sharing all your experiences throughout your journey. You are an amazing woman Sheryl and your blog will be missed. Wishing you all the best.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Whoa! Does it have to be so black and white? Maybe you can't see yourself writing now, but why close the door?

Also, if the blog is too much right now, what about changing up your expectations? Maybe post only a line or two, instead of long posts, or just a photograph or a couple of them. Or giving yourself to write only when you want to, not when you feel you should?

If meeting what you think are other people's expectations has gotten to be too much, what about just writing (or living) for you, instead?

We're opposites. I'm unflamboyant and privacy-seeking, but I really enjoy all aspects of your blog. And you've inspired me to do the 5 Boroughs. I would never even considered it if it weren't for your blog, so I'm awfully glad that for what you've shared here in the past. (But that doesn't mean you have any obligation to do the same in the future!)

Don't pack ANYTHING in because you "just don't have it in you"! You don't have to give up on anything - if it's time to move on, change what you need to change. That's NOT giving up, it's progressing!

I'll be sad if you never write again, but whatever you do, find what's right for you and have the best New Year possible!

  42. Sheryl,
I'm also bummed by this news, but I get it. I wanted to let you know that I found your blog shortly after I rejoined WW in March of last year. I was actually reading my way through your older posts, and I made it into 2011. I have really found your blog inspiring and very helpful for my own weight loss. AND enjoyed reading about your experiences running (I started running in 2006). I do hope you will have available your older posts again to share. It feels as though I have left an incredible book unfinished!! :)
    Thank you for everything!

  44. Sheryl,

Thank you for everything. I read about you in an Irish Magazine in December two years ago and it got me off my ass and moving. I joined WW and got my Gold Card or Lifetime Membership ( I think that is what it is called in the US). I love your blogs because you show it is all about the lifestyle change and not the diet and the reader can share your love of New York city through your photos etc

Sheryl, You rock.I would love to be able to read your archive stuff but if this is not possible I understand. Please check in with us now and then so we know life is treating you well.

Thank you for giving us your time :) I was sad to read your update today but understand you need to do what is best for you.

You have been an awesome inspiration! Thank you for sharing your journey as i know how difficult it is too share. I started a blog with the intention of sharing my weight loss journey... shared everything else except my weight as i never seem to make progress.

I wanted to go back and read some of your food journals, when you click on the link it says the page does not exist? Are they saved somewhere else?

Please let me know, i have tried some of your recipes which were awesome and needed some ideas for daily menus.

  78. Thank you so much for the inspiring posts in your blog over the years. Yours was one of the first ever blogs that I signed up to follow on a regular basis. I think it is perfectly fine if you are taking a break or even if you choose not to write on this blog ever again. You have done your part to inspire, motivate, inform and educate people all over the world to lose weight, exercise, run marathons, ride bicycles and generally live healthily lives.

With much love and gratitude from Zambia (Southern Africa).

  79. Sheryl,

Not updating us or ever writing again is completely understandable. After almost 6 years of writing of yourself and subsequently writing for all of us, I cannot image the deficit it makes on your time and your lifestyle now that you are simply just wanting to live and be free.

Please, however, don't erase or take down all the posts you've written. I follow your posts as I continue along my own journey, we started off at the same weight with the same body type and height, and as I continue to WW and try new activities things, its a great comfort to know that you were there once too, that I'm not alone and that it truly is a journey. Reading your posts from 170, 160 lbs give me the extra motivation I need to keep going and keep trying.

So don't update ever again or do, erase all your posts or don't, the world keeps spinning and we're all struggling or maintaining, but know you gave (and continue) to aid some of us in our own aspirations.

  82. Hi Sheryl,

I understand if you no longer want to blog, it must be very time consuming. However, I would like you to know that you have inspired me to actually want to run. I am going to lose about 20lbs first because I'm desperately out of shape, and then I'm going to follow a couch to 5K app on my phone to get my butt in gear. Thank you for inspiring me and countless others with your struggles and knowledge throughout your journey. I hope you allow us to read your archived blogs at some point and hopefully you will feel the urge to occasionally update us on your continued success in life. You have a beautiful spirit and are blessed.

  84. I feel like I've lost a member of my family, one who spoke to me each day and helped me so much in my weight loss struggle. Sheryl, I wish you well and hope someday that you will return to your blog again. I don't think you really know how special we all think you are. If you are stuggling personally I pray that this too will pass for you. It must be very gratifying for you to know how very much you are missed by all of us. If you are struggling trying to maintain your weight loss please know that all of us do that and some with more success than others. Maintenance is a bitch and I really don't think we are given the best tools to do this after our loss, so we stuggle every day. you are luckyer than most as you exercise so much and burn off those extra calories. I don't exercise as much so the calories just sit there. Having been a w/w leader I know what the stuggle is, it's so hard. I do wish you well in 2014, and please keep positive. You have so much to offer.

I've switched to shorter, less intense mediums like Twitter and Facebook, which aren't quite as time consuming.

That being said, even if you ultimately decide to permanently discontinue blogging, thank you so much for everything you have done to inspire people. You are awesome!

  99. Oh BC....how I'll miss your two-wheel tours of NYC. I hope at some point, somewhere along the the line you'll rejoin the blogesvire. I'd love to follow along as you FINALLY have the chance to run your NYC Marathon. Maybe instead of a blog - you have a book in you? I'd buy it for sure! Best wishes for your next adventures. And thanks so much for sharing your life with us all. You are one of a kind! :)

  100. I am so happy that we're able to access some of your past posts again! I've been checking back each day with my fingers crossed hoping to see something. I recently got back on the wagon again in November, and have found that whenever I'm having a bad day, I reach for your blog for inspiration to help get me
through. Like many have said before, if you ever decide to write a book, I'll be the first to order it from Amazon...you rock!

  103. Morning Sheryl,

I've not commented on your blog before but I have been reading it with such interest. I'll be sad to no longer read such well thought out, intelligent and inspiring posts. Even though technically I'm just inside the healthy of the underweight side, I feel totally out of control sometimes around food. And it scares me and I have to remind myself one day at a time - so to read your posts help so much. But you must look after yourself first and if the blog is no longer a fun, happy and easy thing to continue then you shouldn't. Can any of us readers help you? You've given us so much we might just be able to help you out. You can but ask.

    Keep well and happy.
    Naomi

  104. Just found your blog, love every bit that is still here. Just starting my journey with Weight Watchers. Weighed in at 210, 5' tall. Enjoyed reading every entry posted and bookmarked to come back and read for motivation. Thank you!

  105. I just found your blog! I hope you will leave your blog up...I have only begun to read it. It is wonderful. I linked it to mine so I can always access it.

    Thanks for the wonderful inspiration!

  108. Like others I'll miss reading your blog, but I am glad that you know when to step away from something that no longer serves you, and not continue out of obligation. Being true to yourself is the only way to live. I wish you the best.

  110. Your blog has been a constant inspiration for me since 2007, when I decided that I wanted to be present in my own life (as opposed to being obsessed with food, as I had been since...an entire lifetime ago).
I distinctly remember you saying- "You can never have enough of something you don't need," and THAT has stuck with me through periods of immense self-doubt and eventual growth.

Essentially... thank you. You have given me (and, now, my mother- she has joined WW and started cognitive behavioral therapy and has lost 50+ pounds!!) a new lease on life.

I selfishly wish you would write more here, but I hope that your writing goes to bigger things than your weight. You have stories within you that you need to write! I can't wait to read them.

  111. Sweetie, I will miss you so much. I have appreciated having you there every day to inspire and encourage me in my own efforts. I will keep you on my "favorites" list, and hope to see you again on the net in whatever form you choose.

Lots of hugs and good wishes!

    Your Canadian friend,
    Cynthia (marjorie1940)

  112. Sheryl, I hope you're happy and at peace with yourself. I have just gone through the same thing, and I've recently deleted my blog. I had been blogging for around 5 years, but wasn't feeling it.

One day, I might start again. I miss the highs I'd get blogging my life, and having people all over the world be part of my extended family.

But the drive has gone for the timebeing.

All the best to you x

  116. I was coming back to see if you still blogged to find out you stopped as well. I too went through a point recently where I hadn't updated or felt like writing for the past year or so. Take your time and enjoy life and if you don't write again thanks for all the memories and posts.

  117. Thank you for re-loading your posts, Sheryl. Your blogs are so very supportive, helpful and written with a kind, forgiving heart. I will miss your updates but at the same time imagine it must be freeing to let go of feeling an obligation to the blog. Best wishes to you, SusanJay

  119. Thank you Sheryl for your bravery and dedication all these years. I am so glad I had the chance to know you, at least a little. I had never really read a blog before, but yours just grabbed me somehow. It was wonderful, but I often thought how exhausting it must have been sometimes. Will think of you often as you continue your journey and wish you all the very best. Rest up, and know that we'll be fine--and so much better than we would have been without the benefit of your wonderful words!!

  122. I met you on the bus today. The ironic thing was I was going to visit my mom, and I was sooooooo tired and didn't want to go. But then I saw you get on the bus and I knew it was divine intervention. I'm glad I got the chance to tell you in person, that although I knew you weren't blogging anymore, I loved loved loved it while you were still writing.

  123. Thank you for sharing your journey with us! Years ago, you inspired me to get off my butt and get moving - first, by getting my very own cruiser, and cycling off the weight. I've lost over 60 pounds with you as my main inspiration. The reality of achievement, with all the bumps in the road, made me forgive myself for my failures, and not hate myself for my indiscretions. Even if I "fall off the wagon" for months at a time, you're always my inspiration to climb back on it.

I hope that whatever has lead you to this decision is something positive, and that you're feeling the positivity and presence that you have been in other people's lives.

Thanks for everything, Sheryl! I will check back often, in the event that you change your mind :)

I'm hoping even if you're not blogging it, you're out there doing all of your fun events. We'd love to see even a non-pic update of what you're up to! It is so inspiring to see what events you've done, the sweat factor, the perfect make up, all of it, girlie! Best wishes for an awesome summer!
